Explore Tech SpecsCosta Rica is leading Latin America's transition toward a circular economy. Driven by national environmental policies, particularly Law No. 9786 (Regulation on the Reduction of Single-Use Plastics), Costa Rican food and agricultural industries are rapidly replacing expanded polystyrene (EPS) and plastic clamshells with compostable and recyclable paper-based containers.
Costa Rica’s export-driven economy—centered on fresh agricultural products like pineapples, berries, and gourmet coffee, alongside a robust domestic dairy sector—demands versatile food-grade packaging. The traditional round cup is no longer sufficient. Local food processing companies require space-efficient, sturdy, and visually striking rectangular paper cups and trays for supermarket shelves.
Rectangular paper cups optimize palletization space, reducing shipping costs during export from Puerto Limón or Puerto Caldera. From packaging fresh cut-fruit to premium butter and artisan ice creams, manufacturers are upgrading to multi-functional non-round cup forming machines that handle diverse materials, including PLA-lined paper, water-based barrier coatings, and double-PE coated boards.
Unlike standard cylindrical cups, forming a rectangular or square cup presents complex mechanical and physical challenges. In cylindrical cups, tension is distributed symmetrically. In rectangular cups, however, the material must undergo asymmetric folding, particularly at the four 90-degree corners. This requires highly precise mechanical action to prevent structural failures, such as:
Huanqiang Machinery addresses these challenges by incorporating advanced cam-driven indexing, multi-servo controls, and integrated heater matrices that apply targeted heat directly to the corner seams before pressure sealing. This ensures a leak-free container suitable for liquids, hot foods, and frozen desserts alike.
To succeed in a highly competitive market, companies must select machinery that offers reliable performance and high output. The table below outlines the mechanical performance specifications of the Huanqiang line of machinery, showing how we achieve high speeds while maintaining consistent quality.
| Machine Model | Suitable Container Profiles | Production Velocity (pcs/min) | Paper Specification Compatibility | Primary Mechanical Advantages |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FCM200 Series | Rectangular, Square, Hexagonal, Oval, Specialty | 120 - 150 | 180 - 450 gsm (Single/Double PE, PLA, Aqueous) | Multi-servo drives, Open-cam kinematic chain, PLC diagnostics |
| CM100 Series | Standard Round Cups, Soup Bowls | 100 - 120 | 150 - 380 gsm (Single PE, Bio-PBS) | Vertical axis design, automatic oil bath lubrication |
| HCM100 Series | Deep-drawn Containers, Super-Tall Popcorn Tubs | 80 - 100 | 210 - 400 gsm (Heavy duty board) | Extended stroke forming, reinforced bottom sealing mandrels |
| SM100 Sleeve | Double-wall, Corrugated/Ripple Jackets | 110 - 130 | 200 - 350 gsm (Outer wrap) | Precise hot-melt spray alignment, ultrasonic outer sleeve bonding |
